Penicuik made the journey north, looking for a first ever win at Broughty on a bright but blustery day. Manager Meikle shuffled his pack again after the late comeback at Linlithgow with Montgomery, Gay and Devlin making way for Patterson, McCallum and Lough. The home side kicked off down the slope with the wind blowing strongly across the park and threatened in the 6th minute when a Cameron cross across face of the goal had no takers. The visitors responded and as Patterson’s ball into the box the ball broke to Somerville, who ‘s shot hit the base of the post and his second effort  was deflected into the keepers arms. Penicuik took the lead in the 13th minute when  McCALLUM fired home the free kick from 20 yards. The home side were making the most of the conditions and dangerous crosses from both Cameron and Winter were cleared by a dominant visiting defence. Duell fired over then bar for Broughty in the 18th minute and ten minutes later at the other end Patterson saw his shot well held by Ross. On the half hour mark a quick Cameron free kick wide right saw a Winter snapshot from 20 yards pushed behind for a corner by Bejaoui.  Penicuik doubled the lead in the 33rd minute when SOMERVILLE latched on to a long pass from Greg Ross and lobbed the helpless Ross in the home goal. Two minutes later as the home side attempted to get back in the game a Sibanda effort was blocked by Bruce in to the arms of Bejaoui, but the visitors carried an attacking threat and Somerville saw his shot saved by Ross and the ball went across the face of goal with no takers. Just on half time the home side had the final effort as a ball dropped to Duell 20 yards out but his shot went narrowly wide.

HALF TIME – Broughty Athletic 0 Penicuik Athletic 2

Penicuik had had the first effort of the second half as Patterson saw his shot go wide of the right hand upright before a Broughty penalty appeal was met with a yellow card for simulation for Mair. Ten minutes into the half Somerville latched on to a long clearance but this time his attempted lob went well wide, and a minute later MCallum found himself in a similar position but  fired high and wide as Penicuik began to dominate. On the hour mark BARR scored the visitors third with a composed finish after taking a McCallum pass in his stride firing home from ten yards.  The efforts on goal were coming thick and fast and McCallum’s shot was deflected for a corner before Cunnison tried his luck from 25 yards. With 70 minutes gone Broughty saw a Cameron cross just miss the far post, but their efforts were few and far between as the visitors dominated possession showing composure on the ball in difficult conditions.  With eight minutes left a Jancykz free kickm just evaded the on rushing substitute Devlin and three minutes later a driving run by Ross was crudely stopped by McConnachie, but McCallum’s free kick from 22 yards out went narrowly over. In the closing minutes a Duell header was cleared to Winters and his effort from 35 yards was deflected for a corner by Devlin as the home side sought a consolation. Penicuik saw the game out comfortably and kept the first clean sheet of the league season against a side who had scored 15 goals in the five previous league games.
