Report from Fauldhouse United

Eight Goal Thriller!

Fauldhouse were hoping to end a three match goal drought today against a Broughty side scoring for fun at present. After only five minutes Robertson for United had his header saved by Ross. Broughty replied immediately with two chances of their own in as many minutes Duell and McConnachie going close. With eleven minutes on the clock Donnellys free kick flew inches past the upright denying United the lead. A close call came on sixteen minutes as the ball flew across the goalmouth from Mair but there were no takers in what was a game of missed chances for both sides at this point. Two minutes later as the Broughty defence stood static in the box anticipating an offside flag striker McQuillan composed himself and drilled it past keeper Ross... 1-0 United. After waiting 285 minutes for a goal the second one came along in as many minutes, Donnelly played in live wire Robertson and his looping shot flew over keeper Ross and nestled in the back of the net... 2-0. As Fauldhouse were beginning to take a grip on the match Broughty pulled one back from a direct free kick Winter blasted it through the wall and it bounced over Murphy in goal... 2-1 and it gave the visitors a shot in the arm to get back in the game. A bit of controversy just over the half hour mark as Donnelly stole the ball off Lannen and raced in on goal but the centre back was having none of it and sythed him down on the edge of the box surprisingly only receiving a yellow card much to the disbelief of the home crowd, goalscoring and opportunity are two words that come to mind!  A few minutes later just what Murphy in the United goal was dreading a short pass back after what happened the previous two games but he dealt with it to win a 50/50 tackle and clear his lines...and it finished at Half-Time, Fauldhouse United 2 Broughty Athletic 1.

The start of the second half saw McQuillan going close then Browne and Robertson together failed to connect with a low cross fizzed in across the goalmouth, the House paid for those missed chances as minutes later that man again Winter from another direct free kick sent it past the wall and in for the equaliser... 2-2 with just over an hour gone. Five minutes later a penalty was awarded as McLellan was upended in the box but despair turned to joy as big Andy Murphy saved Duells spot kick to keep the score level. In a game that had just about everthing at this point up stepped McQuillan to score the goal of the game, just managing to keep the ball in play on the right touchline he played a one two with Campbell cut along the eighteen yard line and sent an unstoppable shot by Ross in to the top left corner... 3-2 seventy minutes gone and back in front. Unfortunately the lead only lasted five minutes or so, incredibly Winter again from his third direct free kick fired through the wall and in for his hat-trick and Broughtys third... 3-3. Things got worse when the House went behind for the first time in this amazing match Mair outpaced a tired looking defence to slot home, 4-3 for Athletic but keep with it the action wasn't finished yet with five minutes left Robertson drilled it past the keeper to make it 4-4 and that's how it finished, a great game for any nuetral but some sloppy defending or lack of it caused the loss of two points but to be fair Broughty never gave up throughout.....if Carlsberg done four all draws then this would probably be it!...Final Score, Fauldhouse United 4 Broughty Athletic 4.
