Report from the Fauldhouse United

Points Taken

The start of a new league campaign and an away match at Hill of Beath Hawthorn never an easy place to visit. Early on Ross Donnelly was unlucky after side stepping a defender but keeper Hall blocked his shot. Three minutes later Mark Aitkin tried his luck but it was also saved by Hall in the home goal eight minutes in. United were on top playing some good football, the "Haws" resorted to a long ball at every opportunity whereas Fauldhouse were keeping the ball on the surface. Ten minutes in and the first goal arrived, from a great corner kick which was fizzed in by Jason Deans, Gary Fallon sent a bullet header past Hall...1-0 United and fully deserved. It continued that way with Fauldhouse dictating play for the next quarter of an hour until a slack header out of defence dropped to the "Haws" best player Adamson, and a couple of strides later he shot from inside the penalty box passed Andy Murphy in goal for the equaliser. Hill of Beath now had something to build on and began to take the game to the House for the first time. With five minutes to the break Michael Browne was unlucky to see his shot smack off the top of the bar and over. Half -Time, Hill of Beath 1 Fauldhouse United 0.

Into the second half and what a let off for United on the hour mark,Hay intercepted a slack back pass and ran in on goal but fortunately for the House his shot was well wide. Honours even at this stage with Hill of Beath still quite predictable persisting with their long ball game. Manager Davie Cowan made a couple of changes to try and win the game, B. Ross and Robertson on for McQuillan and Aitkin with just over twenty minutes to go. It made a difference as Fauldhouse potentially sealed the points with quarter of an hour to go, captain Jason Deans sent a shot goal wards it bounced in front of Sam Scott who turned and rifled it past keeper Hall 2-1. United held their nerve to see out the last fifteen for a well deserved victory and it finished...Final score, Hill of Beath 1 Fauldhouse United 2.
