Report from Fauldhouse United

Climbing to Safety?

A glorious day for a football match with Penicuik visiting Parkview, the Cuiky were first to show with centre McCallum bringing out a save from Murphy early on. Fauldhouse were unusually shy on the passing front allowing Cuiky most ofl the play up until now. On ten minutes McCallum again with a goal bound header which came off Rees Smith at the near post and bounced off keeper Murphy and fortunately away out of danger. On quarter of an hour the breakthrough, Brian Ross took advantage of a Cuiky defender stumbling on the half-way line took the ball off him and ran 35yards to side step keeper Hill and cooly put United 1-0 up....what composure! Big Andy McQuillan was putting himself about as usual and working the Penicuik defenders never giving them a minute. United had the ball in the net again on thirty minutes but the referee ruled it out for a barge on the goal keeper. Half time, Fauldhouse United 1 Penicuik Athletic 0.

United came out firing on all cylinders, a great move involving Sam Scott, Brian Ross and finally Ross Donnelly saw a square ball fiercely driven across the six yard box but no takers. After a good run by Rees Smith heading towards the 18 yard box he was upended by Young who was given a second yellow card and off. Sixty two minutes saw another great goal, from just inside his own half Ross Donnelly picked up the ball and kept on running until twenty yards out resulting with him unleashing an unstoppable shot into the postage stamp corner for 2-1.... contender for goal of the season. Penicuik brought on another giant in the form of McCulloch and the high ball route one was on, although United were only troubled at a few corners from the big lads. It was looking good for a clean sheet as the game wore on. The last real chance came from a quick free kick and sub Mark Wilkins fired it across goal but nobody was alive to knock it in. Full time, Fauldhouse United 2 Penicuik Athletic 0.

A great three points should see us over the line to stay in the Superleague this season but still a lot to play for.
