Report from the Fauldhouse United

United pay the Penalty

A hastily arranged Superleague fixture after our game at home to Boness and Bonnyriggs cup tie at Blackburn both falling foul to the weather resulting in a visit to New Dundas Park. The wind was blowing a gale causing the Rose much difficulty in getting out their own half. Sixteen minutes on the clock centre Andy McQuillan for the House went close with a bullet of a header inches over the bar. The game was a scrappy affair with United not able to take advantage of the wind at their backs although another couple of half chances fell for the House as Jamie Robertson and big Andy again tried their luck on the home goal. The game was approaching the interval when the Rose came to life, Archibald firing in a rocket of a shot which Andy Murphy tipped over, from the resulting corner kick an almighty scramble in the box ensued with the ball coming back of the crossbar and being cleared off the line but the Rose failed to take advantage....half time Bonnyrigg Rose 0 Fauldhouse United 0.

Against all odds United came out in the second half putting Bonnyrigg under pressure whilst playing into the severe wind. Six minutes in the first chance of the second period saw Fauldhouse keeper Murphy palming the ball out only as far as Douglas but his control let him down and it was deflected out for a corner kick. A blow for United when Ross Donnelly picked up an injury being replaced by Brian Ross. United continued to cause problems for Bonnyrigg but were passing up chance after chance. With fifteen minutes gone Brian Ross was in the thick of the action, winning the ball out on the touchline and picking out McQuillan with a superb pass, Andy took the ball in his stride into the box and was upended by Woodburn... straight red and the Rose down to ten men, Mark Wilkins stepped up to take the spot kick but shot weakly at keeper Grant who gathered easily. United paid for that miss on seventy two minutes when Douglas scored after a good move down the left saw him tap in from close range... Bonnyrigg 1 Fauldhouse 0. The Rose lead only lasted five minutes, when Fauldhouse substitute Lawson put in an excellent cross for Andy McQuillan to head past Grant giving the keeper no chance...1-1 all square and a deserved equaliser. As the game was coming to a close Thomson scored direct from a wind assisted corner kick with five minutes to go, the Rose left back Hoskins was sent off a couple of minutes later for kicking the ball away getting a second yellow and Rose held out for a very fortunate win... Full time Bonnyrigg Rose 2 Fauldhouse United 1.

Keep going on about it week after week but you have to take your chances. On the plus side two great stand out performances from Jason Deans and Kevin Ross with Andy McQuillan leading the line not far behind getting his confidence back after a long injury.
