Report from Fauldhouse United

Two dropped points!

A heavy overnight frost put this game in doubt early on, if not for some keen volunteers helping to clear a thin layer of frozen snow off the park up until 11.30am it could have been a different story, but come 2.15pm, game on. Fauldhouse welcomed back Jason Deans who started and Ross Donnelly on the bench after their lengthy suspensions. Brian Ross tested big ex United favourite Gary Maley in the first couple of minutes but the goalie gathered safely. Fourteen minutes in a blow for United as striker Jordon Love had to come off with an injury being replaced by Andy McQuillan who himself is just coming back from a long time on the physio bench. Shortly after the first goal of the game arrived when the Broxburn number eight Keast got on the end of a cross to head flick by goalie Andy Murphy... 1-0 Broxburn. Young livewire Brian Ross went close from a direct free kick which Maley did well to palm out for a corner with half an hour gone. From some good United pressure resulting in another corner kick, Brian Ross picked out Sam Scott and his header rattled the back of the net....1-1, a deserved equaliser. Fauldhouse could have gone in front after some good football saw Mark Wilkins in on goal but the huge frame of Maley blocked the ball and with Brian Ross following in he tried to chip the keeper but it was cleared to safety. Broxburn replied almost immediatley and from a fine cut back Donaldson connected well to bring out a good save from Murphy. Three minutes from the break Broxburn took the lead, Easton curling in an unstoppable strike in to the top corner Half time Fauldhouse United 1 Broxburn Athletic 2.

The first real chance for United in the second period came with fifteen minutes on the clock, Mark Wilkins won the ball in a meaty tackle and a couple of strides later cracked a ferocious shot which cannoned off the crossbar with Maley beat. Fauldhouse were beginning to put the Athletic defence under some pressure as they searched for the equaliser, Kevin Ross, Jason Deans and Jamie Robertson all impressive for the House as Broxburn were forced on the back foot. Sixty nine minutes United got back on level terms a great head flick by Andy McQuillan picked out Jamie Robertson and he raced in on goal to fire past the onrushing Maley... 2-2. For the last twenty minutes both teams were limited to chances on goal and as a result the game ran out for a final score... Fauldhouse United 2 Broxburn Athletic 2.

Disappointing not to get three points at home but a draw was maybe a fair result, another point on the board in our quest to stay in the Superleague.
