Report from the Brechin Vics

East of Scotland Cup 2nd round

Dundonald Bluebell 3 Brechin Vics 2

Vics travelled to Fife to meet Premier League opponents Dundonald. The game only got the go ahead after a morning inspection and although playable was very heavy. Vics had an early attempt when Dunn fired a shot from 25 yards which was just too high. Dundonald came into the game and Robbie produced a good save from a 20 yards shot. Dundonald came even closer on 20 mins but Wilson was on hand to clear a header off the line with Robbie beaten. Three minutes later Carr was too high from 10 yards. Vics gradually got back into the game and were awarded a penalty when Renilson was upended in the box. Dunn stepped up but his spot kick was saved by Lennox in the Dundonald goal. The best chance of the half came on 40 mins when Gilfillan missed from 6 yards with the goal gaping.

Half time 0-0

Dundonald took the lead on 48 mins when Duffy smashed a shot from 25 yards high into the corner of the net. Vics were having to defend at this stage and Robbie saved at his near post. Vics continued to play their passing style and this created a chance for Strachan but his shot was deflected for a corner. Vics deservedly equalised on 57 mins when King was sent down the left before picking out Steel with a cut back and from 18 yards he slotted the ball into the corner of the net. Dundonald retaliated and and hit the bar with a 25 yards shot. The game considering the conditions was flowing from end to end but it took until the 88 min for the next goal when Lally smashed a shot from 20 yards past the diving Robbie. Vics again came back at their opponents and on 90 mins scored the best goal of the game when Strachan hit an unstoppable shot into the corner of the net from 25 yards. Incredibly their was another goal when on 93 mins and unfortunately for Vics it was Dundonald who scored what proved to be the winner when Morrison scored with an angled drive from 16 yards.
