Report from the Broxburn Athletic

SAUCHIE JUNIORS v BROXBURN ATHLETIC – 12/04/14

On a day when windy conditions made life difficult for both teams Sauchie came out on top as a result of clinical finishing and poor defence work by Broxburn. In fairness Broxburn are down to the bare bones in terms of players available.

The game was fairly even until the 16th minute when from a free kick a clever knock back from Keist let Pittman drill a fine goal into the Sauchie net. Broxburn were unable to hold on to the lead as within a minute Sauchie were level from a good build up play from a free kick led to an easy goal from Samuels who was to cause the Broxburn defence constant problems throughout the match.

Sauchie playing against the wind increasingly dominated the first half with the Broxburn defence hesitant and finding it difficult to deal with crosses hanging in the air. In the 35th minute after a patient build up from their own half Sauchie went ahead through Hendrie who unmarked in the Broxburn area easily beat the Broxburn keeper.

The game worsened for Broxburn in the 40th minute when from a goal kick  Broxburn went further behind (3-1) with a well taken goal by Cummings from outside the 18 yard box leaving Maley the Broxburn keeper flat footed. Further misery was inflicted on Broxburn when before the end of the half Cummings again unmarked scored from close in. By then Broxburn’s defence were all over the place and the end of the half was welc

HALF TIME – SAUCHIE 4-1 BROXBURN

In the second half Broxburn playing against the wind started brightly and pressed the Sauchie defence on several occasions but their finishing was not as clinical as Sauchie. Sauchie became more careless as the half went on and did find the wind conditions as troublesome as Broxburn did in the first half. In the 66th minute from a free kick just outside the 18 yard box Broxburn pulled a goal back from a powerful strike by Fairbairn. Sauchie soon restored their 3 goal lead after a penetrating run from inside his own half Samuels slide the ball past Maley  Broxburn to their credit never gave up but their recent good run ended with a performance the team will want to forget and rectify next week in their cup game against local rivals Linlithgow.

                                   FULL TIME: SAUCHIE 5-2 BROXBURN
