Report from the Dundonald Bluebell

South League

 Whitburn  5  -   Dundonald  4

                          Duffy,Carr ,Morrison 2

The last time these two teams meet a draw was the result so Dundonald knew that they faced a difficult match. The visitors were under pressure from the first whistle when Whitburn hit the bar. The home side did take the lead when the Dundonald defence misjudged a long ball which allowed the Whitburn striker to score. The home side increased their lead when a long ball caused problems in the Dundonald defence and the Whitburn striker slotted the ball home to scored again. The visitors got themselves back in the match when Young was brought down inside the box and Duffy scored from the spot. The home side regained their two goal advantage when they fired the ball into the net from the edge of the box. Dundonald thought they had reduced the deficit when Carr scored, after the Whitburn keeper failed to hold a Lally shot, but the referee ruled him offside. Carr made no mistake with his next effort  when he slotted the ball pass the Whitburn keeper after he had been played in by Morrison. With half time approaching the home side scored again after Wilson, in the Dundonald goal, misjudged a shot and it ended up in the net.

A good start to the second half  was essential if Dundonald were to get  back into this match but they found themselves further behind when a cross in from the right was turned into the net. Things could have got even worse for the visitors when Shields pass back was short but Wilson cleared the danger. The keeper made another fine save minutes later to deny Whitburn again. Dundonald were living dangerously at this stage and looked beaten but Morrison gave them a life line when he fired a free kick into the net, from the edge of the box, after Young was fouled. The visitors scored again with a almost identical goal to be only one down and right back in this game. With time running out Lally thought he had equalized but his header came back off the bar.

This was the first defeat Dundonald have suffered away from home this season in the league and the management team will be wondering if playing on astro turf had any effect or if it was just a bad day at the office for their team
